Some studies into the fear of loud noises in dogs have pointed towards the breed making a difference in whether a dog has the fear or not. While this was a limited study, it did point to working and hunting dogs as being the most likely to develop such fears. Breeds like Collies, German Shepards and Beagles seem to be more at risk. More so than the breed, there seems to be other risk factors that up the chance a dog will have a fear of loud noises. These include dogs with separation anxiety and dogs that have had a bad experience with a loud noise situation. Owners’ responses to loud noises can even trigger a fear.
